What To Do When Your Friends Write a Blog Post

So you’re starting to see more random blog posts being posted up by your friends on Facebook, Google+ and Twitter, and you want to know what to do with them. This article will tell you how to “hook up” your friend by sharing the blog post, giving them more readers and hopefully more traffic to their website.

First some definitions. A blog, as you probably all know is a Web Log, or an online diary of sorts for the world to see. Usually people try to keep their posts relevent by staying around a topic, such as technology or politics, but sometimes people just blog about whatever they feel is most important right then. So what does this mean for you?

Well it means you’ve got a friend who is trying to become a writer, and they should be supported in their endeavors. There is nothing worse than taking a couple of hours to write a blog post and having only two people like it on Facebook. So if you want to “hook up” your friend, click the little Like button on Facebook, or the +1 button on Google Plus, after you’ve read it of course. This boosts the popularity of the post on the social network it’s on, making it more likely that others might see it.

Another thing you can do is read the article thoughtfully and write a comment on the bottom of the post. Bloggers get so much spam from web bots trying to sell Viagra that it is delightful to see that a real person has read your blog and took the time to respond to it. Try not to be overly critical, but constructive, sharing experiences and even adding your own insight. Who knows, you may start blogging some day yourself.

Finally, if you find the post worthy, you can share it on your own Google Stream of Facebook Timeline. To do this, just click the share button and share it with all of your followers, so the original poster can have new streams of readers they didn’t have before. I used to post my blogs with the instructions: “Read. Like. Share.” And a lot of times, people did. By promoting your friends, you’ve shown true friendship and supported them through the writing experience they’ve decided to undertake. Plus, you’re helping spread the word about what your friend thought was important enough to write about. Maybe they’ll get the chance to return the favor one day, maybe not, but at least you’ll know you’ve done your part to help promote your friend’s Blog.
